NYANAPONIKA a farewell tribute The German-born Buddhist monk, the Venerable Nyanaponika Mahathera, was one of our era's shining guides to the Buddha Dhamma and a major figure in the transmission of the Buddha's teachings to the modern world. The supreme expression of his endeavour to share his knowledge of the Dhamma was the creation of the Buddhist Publication Society, which he co-founded and served as its long-time spiritual guide. On 19th October 1994, three months after his 93rd birthday, Ven. Nyanaponika passed away at his Forest Hermitage near Kandy, having just completed his 57th rains retreat as a member of the Buddhist Sangha. The present volume-containing a life sketch, bibliography, appreciations, and other documents-is a shared attempt by his friends, students, and admirers to pay a farewell tribute to this great emissary of the Dhamma, whose selfless labours brought the light of the Buddha's teachings into the lives of so many.
