Mount Lavinia is a coastal town on the Galle Road situated between Ratmalana and Dehiwala.Mt. Lavinia Hotel by sea side is one of the earliest Hotels in the Country and remained one of the premier Hotels in Sri Lanka for a Long time until 1960s when bigger Hotels of International Standards started to be built. However Mt. Lavinia Hotel is still a popular Hotel in Sri Lanka. Mt. Lavinia is also well known for St. Thomas? College by the seaside. It remained a leading educational institution up to the middle of the 20th century. And has produced Several Prime Ministers and prominent politicians . Although it is run as a Private School, it is still very much sought after. Mount Lavinia can be reached by train on the Coastal Line . Mt. Lavinia Railway Station is between Ratmalana and Dehiwala Railway Stations.
